ABOUT PARKING IN DOWNTOWN SAVANNAH......

The historic District has approximately 3,000 parking meters. Time limits range from 15 minutes to 10 hours, and the cost, per hour, ranges from .30 to .75 depending on the location.

The meters are STRICTLY regulated from 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday (excluding legal holidays). A parking ticket at a meter runs about $10, HOWEVER, you can get TWO parking tickets if your auto is still there when the meter maids come around a second time. Tickets for loading zones, yellow, handi-cap, etc. are higher. And yes, the meter maids appear out of nowhere the minute your meter expires!

There is a 7-level parking facility at the corner of Drayton and State (accessible from State). Most of the year, after 6 pm and on Saturday/Sunday parking is free except during certain events. Daily, the maximum fee is about $7.50 which sure beats a $10 ticket, or worse.

Vistors can obtain a day pass for parking. Good at all City parking facilities and parking meters that are for one hour or more. Available at the Visitor's Center, the parking services office, plus many hotels and inns.

As of July 2008 the new underground parking garage (1,085 spaces) on Whitaker Street is not yet open to the public,
but finishing touches are now being completed !

Whitaker Street Garage: $110/month, $2/hour, $16/day
Liberty Street Garage: $35/month, $1/first hour, 75 cents each additional hour
Bryan Street Garage: $75/month, $1/first hour, 75 cents each additional hour
